Effective airstrikes hit Afghan Taliban ammunition depot as Pakistan responds to border attacks

PESHAWAR, Pakistan  - Pakistan’s security officials reported a major confrontation along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border after Afghan Taliban launched coordinated attacks on multiple Pakistani border posts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Effective airstrikes were carried out in response to the unprovoked aggression, according to security sources. The strikes destroyed a large Taliban ammunition depot in Nangarhar with pinpoint accuracy, and further operations are ongoing.

Fighter jets were scrambled as part of the high-alert response. According to Pakistani security officials, Taliban fighters opened fire across several sectors, prompting swift countermeasures. Early reports indicate that the militants abandoned their positions in multiple areas after facing Pakistan’s decisive response.

A video shared by officials with The South Asia Times shows Afghan Taliban forces abandoning their post near the Torkham border and fleeing in vehicles.

In a follow-up operation, Pakistani forces reportedly captured several Taliban posts along the border. Officials said the operation inflicted a “decisive defeat” on the militants. Videos circulating online show Pakistani soldiers raising the national flag on the captured posts, signaling both a tactical victory and a message of deterrence.

One Pakistani soldier, speaking in the video, said: “Listen, Afghan Taliban, we will give you a strong response so you understand who you have challenged. We will continue advancing and can even capture Kabul; then you will realize what it means to provoke us.”

Authorities emphasized that the response was part of a broader effort to counter what they describe as unprovoked aggression by Taliban forces and to ensure the security of the border and nearby civilian populations.

Security analysts note that clashes along the mountainous Durand Line have escalated repeatedly since the Taliban returned to power in Kabul. Islamabad has long accused Kabul of supporting TTP elements operating from eastern Afghanistan for cross-border attacks.

The situation remains tense, with Pakistani forces maintaining high alert and continuing operations to secure border posts and prevent further incursions.
