20 killed as China hit by heavy rain, floods caused by Typhoon Doksuri

BEIJING - At least 20 people were killed while 19 others missing as China hit by heavy rain, floods caused by Typhoon Doksuri.

 

According to officials, since Saturday, the Chinese capital Beijing and northern Chia facing heavy rain and flood following Typhoon Doksuri.

 

So far, 11 people have been confirmed dead in Beijing including two rescuer while nine others lost lives in Hebei Province, state-run Global Times reported.

 

19 people in Beijing and Hebei are still missing as search operations continue to find them.

 

Meanwhile, President Xi Jinping directed the authorities to use all resources for search of missing people and help to the affected people.

 

 

“It is crucial to ensure medical treatment for the injured and provide aid and comfort to the families of the deceased,” the daily quoted Xi as saying.

 

“The safety of the people's lives and properties as well as social stability must be ensured with the utmost efforts,” he added.

 

So far, 45,000 people in different areas have been severely affected by the rain and flood while 127,000 have evacuated to safe places. 

 

As of 6 am Tuesday, Beijing recorded an average precipitation of 257.9 mm, with the urban area averaging 235.1 mm. In Mentougou and Fangshan, average precipitation reached 470.2 mm and 414.6 mm, respectively, according to Global Times.
