By Our Correspondent

NEW DELHI - Two Indian Air Force pilots were killed after a fighter jet crashed in India’s northeastern state of Assam during a training mission, the air force confirmed on Friday.

The Su-30MKI aircraft lost contact shortly after taking off from the Jorhat airbase on Thursday evening, prompting authorities to launch a search and rescue operation in the region.

The wreckage of the jet was later located in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, where officials confirmed that both pilots on board had died from injuries sustained in the crash.

In a statement posted on the social media platform X, the Indian Air Force expressed condolences to the families of the deceased pilots.

“All personnel of the Indian Air Force express sincere condolences and stand firmly with the bereaved families in this time of grief,” the statement said.

The Su-30MKI is a twin-engine multirole fighter aircraft developed by Russia and produced in India for the Indian Air Force. Authorities said an investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the crash.
