Pakistan desires to strengthen its military partnership with Belarus

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan on Wednesday expressed a desire to further strengthen its military partnership with Belarus.

The visiting Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko met with Pakistan Army Chief Syed Asim Munir in Islamabad and discussed regional dynamics and strengthening bilateral defense ties, said ISPR, a media-wing of Pakistan Army, in a statement. 

“Discussions focused on regional dynamics and the enhancement of bilateral security and defense cooperation between the two nations,” it said.

Army Chief reaffirmed Pakistan’s appreciation for Belarus’ contributions to global and regional affairs and expressed a desire to further strengthen the military partnership between the two countries. 

Prime Minister Golovchenko commended the Pakistan Armed Forces for their pivotal role in promoting regional peace and stability, acknowledging their professionalism and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.

Premier Golovchenko arrived on Tuesday in Islamabad to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit that held today. 

Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Kyrgyzstan’s Prime Minister Akylbek Zhaparov, Uzbekistan's Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, Tajikistan’s Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda and Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov also attended the moot.

Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and Iranian Mining and Trade Minister Seyyed Mohammad Atabek were also attended the summit.

Mongolian Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai attended the summit as an observer member, while Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov  was also attended the summit as a special guest.
