International Automobile Federation  cancel 2022 F1 Grand Prix in Russia’s Sochi

 

 

MOSCOW, (TSAT) - The Russian media on Friday said that the executive management of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) Formula One has cancelled the 2022 F1 Grand Prix in Russia’s Sochi following Moscow attack on Ukraine.

The 2022 F1 Grand Prix in Russia’s Sochi was scheduled for September 23-25.

"The FIA Formula 1 World Championship visits countries all over the world with a positive vision to unite people, bringing nations together," Russian TASS news agency quoted the FIA said in a statement. 

"We are watching the developments in Ukraine with sadness and shock and hope for a swift and peaceful resolution to the present situation."

"On Thursday evening Formula 1, the FIA, and the teams discussed the position of our sport, and the conclusion is, including the view of all relevant stakeholders, that it is impossible to hold the Russian Grand Prix in the current circumstances," its said.

On Friday, the Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison also urged to cancel the FI Grand Prix and he praised the athletes who announced to not take part in the scheduled event.
