China urges Pakistan and Afghanistan to restrain, announces aid for Middle East crisis

By The South Asia Times

BEIJING - China on Tuesday called for restraint between Pakistan and Afghanistan following reports of Pakistani strikes in Kabul, while also announcing humanitarian aid for countries affected by the escalating Middle East crisis.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said disputes between Pakistan and Afghanistan should be resolved through dialogue. He urged both sides to remain calm, engage directly, and work toward an early ceasefire.

Lin added that China has asked both countries to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel and projects, and said Beijing would continue playing a “constructive role” in easing tensions.

Addressing the broader regional situation, Lin said the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has created a severe humanitarian crisis, with heavy civilian casualties and mass displacement across several countries. He confirmed that China will provide emergency humanitarian assistance to Iran, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq.

On US-China relations, Lin said Beijing remains in communication with Washington regarding a possible visit by Donald Trump, including scheduling, but declined to provide further details.

China reiterated its call for a ceasefire and a return to stability in the Middle East.
