Russia-Ukraine tension: US send over 200,000 lethal weapons to Kyiy

KYIY (TSAT) - The United States has sent huge catchment of lethal weapons to Ukraine to support its forces as tension between Russia and Ukraine growing.

 

The US embassy in Ukraine announced that the first shipment of Washington security package for Kyiy has arrived in the country on Saturday.

 

“The first of several parties to the security package recently approved by President Biden for Ukraine arrived in Kyiv tonight. This cargo includes about 200,000 pounds of lethal weapons, including ammunition for the defenders of Ukraine on the front line,” the embassy tweeted.

 

So far, US has provided $2.7 billion as security assistance including providing weapons to Ukraine to strengthen its forces against the Russia.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov thanked Washington for their support during the current difficult time.

@secdef Lloyd Austin III for the unwavering support,” Oleksii Reznikov tweeted.

 

He added that other European countries defines aid is expected to arrived soon.

 

Washington and other NATO allies warning Russia to refrain from invasion against Ukraine and already announced to be standing with Kyiy if Moscow invaded.

 

Russia in 2014 annexed Ukraine's Crimean peninsula in a move that has never been met with international recognition, and which has been decried as illegal under international law. That year also saw Moscow begin its support for separatist rebels in eastern Ukraine, a policy it has continued for eight years, according to Anadolu Agency.
