Six Militants Killed as Suicide Attack Foiled in North Waziristan

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD - Security forces foiled a major suicide attack on their camp in the Mir Ali area of North Waziristan on Friday, killing six militants belonging to the outlawed Khawarij group, according to security sources.

A suicide bomber rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the boundary wall of a military camp in Mir Ali, triggering a powerful explosion. Following the blast, five more militants attempted to storm the compound but were shot dead in a swift and coordinated response by the security forces, the sources said.

According to security sources, at least seven soldiers were also martyred and 13 other injured while six civilians were also wounded.

Security officials said the attack was part of the ongoing wave of terrorist violence being carried out by Khawarij militants operating from across the border.

They reaffirmed that under the National Action Plan (NAP), Pakistan’s armed forces and law enforcement agencies would continue to defend the country “until the last terrorist is eliminated.”

In a separate operation, security forces conducted an intelligence-based raid in the Ting Kali area of Datta Khel, North Waziristan, killing six militants, including a key commander identified as Mehbub alias Muhammad. Three others were injured during the exchange of fire.

The operation followed several days of surveillance after intelligence reports indicated militant movement in the area.

Meanwhile, in Bajaur, a vehicle packed with explosives detonated prematurely while parked on a roadside, causing no casualties, according to police.

Security sources said that in the past four days, 94 militants linked to the Afghan Taliban have been killed in various counterterrorism operations.

They emphasized that “indiscriminate and continuous actions” against terrorist elements will continue until peace is fully restored in the region.
