Pakistan refuted media reports of using its airspace by Americans to kill Al-Qaeda chief in Afghanistan

By Zahid Shah

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday rejected the reports in some media outlets about the US using  of its airspace to target Al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri in Kabul, Afghanistan capital.

“There is no evidence of this action having been undertaken using Pakistan's airspace, so this is something that I can add to that,” Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesman said during his weekly briefing

He added that Pakistan's position is very clear and there is no reality in these reports.

Earlier, in the Senate of Pakistan, Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan demanded the government to explain its position over the recent drone attack in Afghanistan.

“Just two days before the drone attack, our aviation minister said that our airspace is under pressure, now he should come and explain to the parliament,” Khan said.

“This drone attack was linked by the US with IMF deal,” Khan asked from treasury benches and demanded Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and aviation Minister should explain them.

Pakistan government says the IMF deal is now final and it is likely the international monetary fund would soon release the $1.7 billion tranche.

On Sunday, the US president Joe Biden said that they targeted Al-Qaeda chief in Kabul and killed him in a drone strike.
