Another shocking news for Pakistan ruling alliance as President returns NAB Amendment Bill 2023 to parliament

ISLAMABAD- Another shocking news for the Pakistan 13 parties ruling alliance as the President Dr Arif Alvi has sent back National Accountability (Amendment) Bill 2023 to parliament for reconsideration.

 

In a statement, issued by the Presidency, said that President Alvi has returned the bill after observing that the amendments brought earlier in the National Accountability Ordinance 1999 were sub-judice before the Supreme Court. 

 

 

“The president sent back the piece of legislation, in terms of clause (1) (b) of the Article 75 of the Constitution,” said the Presidency.

 

 

The president said that this aspect of the legislation was neither referred to in the bill nor in the prime minister’s advice. 

 

He observed that without considering the implications of a pending matter, further amendments in the National Accountability Ordinance 1999 should be reconsidered, its said.

 

Earlier, the prime minister had sent advice seeking the assent of the president over the said bill.

 

Last year the ruling alliance passed legislation and brought several amendments to the corruption law to get rid of corruption cases was facing by the ruling alliance leaders.

 

According to former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the ruling 13 parties alliance leaders have forgiven Rs 1,100 billion to each other after passing last year's amendments bill, which Khan later challenged in the top court and is still pending there.
