ISLAMABAD (TSAT) - The United States alleged role in regime change in Pakistan was heavily criticized by the ruling party ministers during a debate on a no-trust motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan in the parliament on Saturday.

Speaking in the parliament, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the no-trust motion against premier Khan was planned outside the country.

Briefing the lawmakers over a threatening letter received from Washington, Pakistan's top diplomat said that toppling their democratically elected government is an international conspiracy.

“The US National Security Adviser called our NSA and asked him to cancel Imran Khan's visit to Russia,” he claimed.

“Our ambassador who sent the letter is a seasoned diplomat and he shared the message given by the US official in which he [US official] said that if no-confidence motion against Imran Khan failed, your country will face consequences,” Qureshi told the parliament.

The government believed the opposition parties have joined hands with the US to topple their government but the opposition rejected the government's accusation.

“It was unfortunate that with the support of the foreign powers, the majority of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf [ruling party] in the National Assembly [Lower House of the Parliament] was being converted into a minority,” the Foreign Minister added.

Qureshi expressed the confidence that history would expose the elements that hatched the conspiracy against the democratically elected government.

He said that it was the right time for the nation to decide whether they wanted to live with dignity and pride or otherwise, according to APP.

Qureshi added that Khan had undertaken the bilateral visit to Russia in consultation with all stakeholders. Pakistan always believed in the true implementation of international laws and the United Nations charter, he added.

The country's Human Rights Minister Shireen Mizari slammed the US and said Washington always used Pakistan for their self-interest.

“The US always given priority to India despite we fought their war in Afghanistan and sacrificed our thousand people,” she said.

Mazari said Pakistan has no deep-seated relationship with the US, instead, her country has deep-seated subservience with the US.

Washington despite denying its role in the current political crisis in the country, faces tough criticism from the public in Pakistan and people blame the Biden administration is behind the political crisis in their country.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has already named the US and said Washington is not happy with his independent foreign policy.

Ruling party ministers also expressed displeasure over the country's top court verdict and called it interference in the parliament affairs.

During the debate, the opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif and Bilawal Bhutto urged the speaker to proceed to vote on the no-trust motion as per the supreme court ruling.

However, the speaker said he will follow the ruling in the true spirit, and till filing this report the session of parliament was still continued.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court of Pakistan set aside the Deputy Speaker's ruling to dismiss a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Khan and also overruled the dissolution of the National Assembly by the president on the premier's advice.

The court also provide protection to the no-confidence motion against Khan and ordered the speaker of parliament to hold the National Assembly session on Saturday for a vote of no-trust against Imran Khan.

But the former cricket star-turned-politician warned that the opposition bought the loyalties of MPs and he will never accept the new government.
