Pakistan calls India actions against social media channels closures as attack on freedom of expression

By Imran Nasir

ISLAMABAD (TSAT) - Pakistan strongly condemned the Indian government action to blocked Pakistani YouTube channels and websites and called it an act against freedom of expression.

During his weekly briefing, the Foreign Ministry spokesman Asim Iftikhar said India is itself known for spreading disinformation and fake news.

“This is very evident that a country like India which itself has been exposed before the international community with regards to its activities in spreading disinformation directed against other countries is taking steps such as blocking channels and accusing others of false news and propaganda,” the spokesman said.

Last week, Indian government blocked 35 YouTube channels, two website sites  and some social media accounts of Pakistani journalists over criticism at Indian Prime Minister, its army actions in Kashmir and growing hatred against Muslims in India.

The spokesman said that current RSS/BJP government in India muzzled the dissenting voices with officially sanctioned impunity while their affiliated extremist groups fully supported to spread hatred against minorities.

“The increasing intensity of attacks against freedom of expression, including the recent reprehensible act of de-registration of Kashmir Press Club by the IIOJK administration, reveals Indian hypocrisy of the highest order,” he added.

Recalling the 2020 EU DisinfoLab investigative report, in which the international organization exposed Indian government sponsored worldwide campaign against Pakistan and running hundreds fake websites and NGOs in western world, the spokesman said New Delhi itself involved in worldwide disinformation campaign.

“This was the world’s largest disinformation campaign and one of its primary motives was to deflect global attention from India’s own atrocities and human rights violations,” he said.

He denounced the India disinformation campaign against his country and said Pakistan will expose New Delhi true face in front of the world community

“Targeting Pakistan with false propaganda campaigns for ideological reasons and political expediency is a norm in today’s India.”

He added that recently the UN adopted a Pakistan sponsored resolution to stop disinformation around the world and Islamabad will continue its efforts to expose India at every international platform
