Pakistan opposition leader in  Senate resign following criticism

ISLAMABAD (TSAT) - Former Pakistani Prime Minister and opposition leader in the Senate, Yousuf Raza Gilani has resigned after opposition defeat in the upper house over IMF related bill last week.

 

Gilani along with at least eight other senators were skipped the session when government presented the controversial State Bank of Pakistan autonomy bill on Friday.

 

His absence along with other opposition member helped government to passed the bill with majority of only one vote.

 

The opposition, who are in majority in the 100 members house, came under criticism from public on social media and also inside their parties as they were publicly opposing the bill and called it handing over the country central bank to the IMF by the ruling party.

 

During his address to the Senate on Monday, Gilani said he resigned from his position and sent his resignation as some people accusing him to helped the government.

 

On Friday, not only the PPP, a main opposition party, but also the JUI and ANP senators skipped the session to paved way for the government to passed the bill.

 

While publicly the leaders of these parties accusing Prime Minister Imran Khan and his government for prices hike and bad governance in the country.

 

However, inside the parliament, these parties senators helped him to passed a bill which were widely criticising by opposition people in media and saying they will not allow to pass the bill from Senate where they are in majority.
