NEW DELHI: Huge protest demonstrations erupted across India after the government refused to take action against the ruling party spokesperson over insults to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Heavy clashes were also reported from Uttar Pradesh where police attacked on peaceful protesters who staged a peaceful demonstration and demanded to arrest BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

Sharma insulted Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) during a live TV show last month that spread anger among Muslims worldwide.

Muslim leaders in India filed a complaint against Sharma with police and demanded to arrest her but Prime Minister Modi’s government protect her and police are unable to arrest Sharma.

On Friday, when Muslims held a peaceful protest in Kanpur Uttar Pradesh, the Hindu extremist groups affiliated with RSS/BJP started stone-pelting and opened fire causing several casualties.

Hindu extremists also threw bombs and fired on peaceful protesters in Pared, Nai Sadak and Yateemkhana areas of the city after Friday namaz, according to The Print.

"Because the inaction of Indian islamophobic regime against @NupurSharmaBJP who insulted prophet Muhammad. Violence breakout in #Kanpur Visuals clearly showing that firstly Extremist Hindutva Mob attacked on the peaceful protest of Muslim community & police criminalizing Muslims," Samiullah Khan, General Secretary of CPJ_India tweeted.

"we’ll rebuild a magnificent Babri Masjid. And will reopen fully our Gyanvapi Masjid, legally. The world will see the great moment of Justice: Insha-ALLAH," he added.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh state, ruled by BJP party, government launched an operation against the Muslims who held peaceful protests and arrested dozen of them.

However, police didn’t take action against RSS extremists who threw bombs and opened fire on peaceful protesters and injured dozen of people.

“Those involved in the violence are being identified with help of video clips of the incident, they will be booked under Gangster Act and their properties will be seized or demolished,” the Print quoted Additional Director General (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar as saying.

Analysts believed that the current crisis could push India into disaster as Sharma’s insult to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is a red line for Muslims.
Muslims across India have announced to continue protest until Sharma is arrested and sentenced over her heinous crime.
