Australia High Commissioner calls on former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD - Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan Neil Hawkins met former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan at his Zaman Park’s residence in Lahore.

During the meeting, they discussed Pak-Australia relations, issues of bilateral and mutual interest threadbare.


They also discussed the philosophy and manifesto of PTI pertaining to the promotion and stability of democracy as well rule of law and constitution in the country.


In the meeting, International Charter of Human Rights, fundamental rights in Pakistan, especially the status of women and political activists were discussed at length.

Moreover, they also shed lights on the quality of democracy in Pakistan, economic challenges and issues like trade, tourism and investment.

"Pleased to meet key political leaders in #Lahore to underline Australia’s support for a stable, prosperous and democratic Pakistan that protects fundamental freedoms. Urged leaders to work towards ‘Ijma’ (consensus) at this difficult time," Australian High Commissioner tweeted.

 

Currently, Khan's workers are facing worst human rights violation in the country as government arrested thousands his supporters after May 9 violent protest.

 

According to Khan, government also trying to kick him out from politics through fake cases as authorities registered over 120 cases against the former premier during last one year.
