MAKKAH - Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement on Friday, committing to closer military cooperation and collective security during a trilateral summit held at Al-Safa Palace in Makkah.

The summit brought together Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the invitation of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, according to a statement from Saudi Arabia's Foreign Ministry.

The three leaders reviewed bilateral and trilateral relations, discussed regional developments and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence cooperation based on their shared strategic interests and longstanding ties.

Under the agreement, the three countries pledged to enhance collective deterrence against external aggression. It stipulates that an armed attack against any one of the three states will be regarded as an attack against all, while also expanding cooperation across all areas of defence.

The leaders said the pact reflects their shared commitment to promoting regional peace, security and stability while reinforcing strategic cooperation among the three countries.
