Communal clashes between Hindu, Muslims erupts in India, dozen killed, wounded

NEW DELHI (TSAT) - Situation is worsening in India after communal violence erupted in different states of the Hindu majority South Asian country from Sunday.

 

According to local media, so far one person has been killed and over 100 injured including police personnel, and in huge clashes between the Hindu militants groups and Muslims. 

 

Four states of the country, Gujrat, the hometown of Prime Minister Naredra Modi, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and West Bengal are currently in a tense situation, the Indian Express reported.

 

The clashes erupted during Hindu festival Ram Navami celebrations when some Hindu nationalists groups attacked a mosque in Madhya Paresh when Muslims were performing Ramadan prayers.

 

“Hindutva goons  attack on Mosque in Vasco city of Goa when Muslims were offering Taraweeh prayer on 10th April,” Muslim Mirror reported.

 

Local police also joined the Hindu groups and demolish homes of Muslims vindictively in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone, its said. 

 

Hindu militants affiliated with RSS, a Hindu militant group in India, pelted stones at Mosque in other areas and set fire to Muslim houses 

 

“Mob lynching has come to dominate the rule of law in a planned manner. @ChouhanShivraj [CM of Madhya Pardesh’ Even though your ideology justifies the desecration of mosques and attacks on elders, do not forget that you are holding a constitutional position, it is your responsibility to protect the life and property of the public,” Asaduddin Awasi, a Muslim politician in India tweeted. 

 

He accused the Chief Minister and said he is behind the attacks on Muslims.

 

“Remember that you are destroying the homes of the poor by being intoxicated with power and breaking the law! Today the government is yours, tomorrow it will not,” Awaisi said.

 

Local authorities didn’t release the exact number of casualties and damages to Muslims properities in the four states but local says that over 100 people so far wounded and some other killed while dozen houses and shops were burent down. 

 

In Madhya Pradesh, at least 10 houses of Muslims were set ablaze and more than two dozen people were injured in clashes, according to local media .

 

The government has imposed curfew in some parts of the four states, however, the clashes still continue and Hindu militants set fire to shops and houses of Muslims in these areas. 

 

 

 Tension also prevailed in West Bengal’s Shibpur area after a purported provocative speech was made during a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) rally against the Muslim.

 

Last week, the Hindu groups announced to kidnap and rape Muslim women, which caused communal clashes because police refused to arrest the Hindu groups’ leaders who incited his youth for attacks against Muslim, a local resident Ahmad told TSAT.

 

Situation is very tensed and Hindu groups carrying attacks in presence of local police, he added.  

 

Meanwhile, Curfew also imposed in Gujrat as situation is still tense in the state.

 

In 2002, Gujarat was gripped by deadly communal violence where according to Human Rights organizations, over 2,000 people, mostly Muslim were killed.

Modi, was the chief minister of Gujarat at that time, and was blamed for the Muslim massacre in the state.
