Strange decision in US history, President Biden orders to divides Afghan government over $7 billion frozen assets between Afghan people, 9/11 victims

WASHINGTON (TSAT) - The US President Joe Biden on Friday has announced to unfreeze Afghan government assets and only half amount will send to Afghanistan.

The decision has called an “strange and unique” in the US history as the President used its power and would be held $3.5 billion in the US which is belongs to the Afghan people.

“As part of our ongoing work to address the humanitarian and economic crisis in Afghanistan, President Biden signed an Executive Order (E.O.) to help enable certain U.S.-based assets belonging to Afghanistan’s central bank, Da Afghanistan Bank (“DAB”), to be used to benefit the Afghan people,” said in a statement issued from the White House.

However, the White House said that $3.5 billion out of the total $7 billion Afghan government assets will use for humanitarian assistance of Afghan people while the remaining $3.5 billion will hold in the US until the court case that filed the 9/11 attacks victims families against Afghan Taliban.

During a background briefing in the White House on Friday, when a journalist asked the senior official that the frozen $7 billions assets are belonging to the Afghan people and they  have no role in the 9/11 attacks than how the US President could hold their money?.

The official said its very complicated issue and the court will decide it.

Following Taliban took over Kabul in mid-August last year, the US frozen its over $9 billion assets in which over $2 billion hold by the UK, Germany and other countries, according to official,

The US move has caused economic crisis in the war-torn country and now UN says that half of Afghan population lives under risk because of humanitarian crisis.

“This is a truly bizarre and cruel move that does not help the people of Afghanistan in a very desperate time. It does not help the US achieve its own foreign policy interests. A grievous wound to Afghans. Self-defeating all around,” Jen Brick Murtazashvili. Founding Director of the Center for Governance and Markets tweeted.

Hundreds people on Twitter strongly reacted over the President Biden decision and called its injustice with Afghan people.

“A very shameful and disgusting decision, snatching and robbing the assets of unstable country and poor Afghans to distribute in the rich people of the stable countries.” Abdullah Nangyal said

“If there is anyone to compensate for the 9/11 victims, it should be Saudi Arabia, UAE, Lebanon and Egypt who were directly involved. Afghans have paid the ultimate price over the past 2 decades and had nothing to do with 9/11, this is cruel and unacceptable!” Said an Afghan national Bashir Gharwal.

Also the US citizen criticized the decision and said US should not snatched the assets of poor Afghan people.

“The 19 hijackers in the September 11 attacks were affiliated with al-Qaeda, not the Taliban. Fifteen of them were citizens of Saudi Arabia, two were from the United Arab Emirates, one was from Lebanon, and one from Egypt,” said Dave.

“This is biggest threat alert for all the countries that have reservrs in us banks, all the international transition goes via usa so im future they can do this with any country ,espasially third world countries,” Harees Zain, another Twitter user said.

However, so far, the Afghan Taliban government has not issued any statement over the Biden administration decision.
