By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD - Türkiye and Pakistan have agreed to intensify efforts to boost bilateral trade to $5 billion, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced Thursday during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, according to Anadolu Agency.

"We agree with the prime minister to increase our efforts to reach the target of $5 billion in trade volume," the agency quoted Erdoğan as saying, emphasizing the importance of strengthening economic ties between the two nations.

He also expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s support for the Turkish Republic of Cyprus, calling it "extremely meaningful" for Türkiye.

Addressing former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to relocate Gazans from their homeland, Erdoğan reaffirmed Türkiye’s firm opposition. "At a time when unlawful proposals are being made to displace Gazans, we believe we must strengthen our resolute stance," he said.

Erdoğan arrived in Islamabad on Wednesday for an official visit following visit to Malaysia and Indonesia, aiming to enhance diplomatic and economic cooperation between Türkiye and Pakistan.

Meanwhile, political leaders and Pakistani citizens warmly welcomed the Turkish president Erdogan visit to Pakistan and called him as their "hero."
