Trump confirms second round of Iran talks begins Monday in Islamabad

By The South Asia Times

WASHINGTON - US President Donald Trump confirmed Sunday that a second round of peace talks with Iran will begin Monday in Pakistan's capital, even as he accused Tehran of violating their ceasefire agreement by opening fire in the Strait of Hormuz.

A US delegation is expected to arrive in Islamabad Sunday evening for the high-stakes negotiations, diplomatic sources confirmed, as authorities sealed the Red Zone and tightened security across the city.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump revealed that Iranian forces fired bullets in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, targeting a French ship and a United Kingdom freighter.

"That wasn't nice, was it?" Trump wrote.

Despite the provocation, Trump confirmed that his representatives are heading to Islamabad. "They will be there tomorrow evening, for Negotiations," he said.

Trump dismissed Iran's recent announcement that it was closing the Strait, noting that the US blockade has already closed it.

"They're helping us without knowing, and they are the ones that lose with the closed passage, $500 Million Dollars a day! The United States loses nothing," Trump wrote. "In fact, many Ships are headed, right now, to the U.S., Texas, Louisiana, and Alaska, to load up, compliments of the IRGC, always wanting to be 'the tough guy!'"

Trump described the US offer as "a very fair and reasonable DEAL" and expressed hope that Iran would accept it.

But he issued a stark warning if Tehran refuses:

"If they don't, the United States is going to knock out every single Power Plant and every single Bridge in Iran. NO MORE MR. NICE GUY! They'll come down fast, they'll come down easy and, if they don't take the DEAL, it will be my Honor to do what has to be done, which should have been done to Iran, by other Presidents, for the last 47 years."

Trump concluded: "IT'S TIME FOR THE IRAN KILLING MACHINE TO END!"

- Islamabad on High Alert

Meanwhile, in Islamabad, security remains at maximum. Police have sealed the Red Zone, and the US delegation's arrival at Nur Khan Airbase is expected later Sunday. Technical teams from both sides are scheduled to meet Monday to prepare documents for what sources say could be a preliminary agreement.

Neither the Iranian government nor Pakistan's Foreign Office has officially commented on Trump's statements. However, Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday to discuss delegation arrivals and the potential agreement.

However, the world will be watching Islamabad on Monday.
