Taliban deputy foreign minister flee country following arrest threat

In a significant development within Afghanistan's political landscape, reports have emerged that Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, the Taliban's Deputy Foreign Minister, has left the country following internal disputes with the group's leadership. Stanikzai, known for his vocal criticism of certain Taliban policies, particularly the ban on girls' education, is said to have departed amid escalating tensions.

Background of the Dispute:

Stanikzai has been one of the few Taliban officials openly opposing the group's stringent restrictions on women's rights. In a recent speech, he accused the Taliban of violating women's rights, stating that the group has committed oppression and injustice against 20 million women and girls in Afghanistan. He emphasized that the decision to close schools and universities to girls lacks religious justification and is solely the personal view of Supreme Leader Hibatullah Akhundzada.

Following his outspoken remarks, sources indicate that Akhundzada issued an arrest warrant and exit ban against Stanikzai. In response, Defense Minister Mullah Yaqoob, an ally of Stanikzai, reportedly facilitated his immediate departure to Dubai to prevent his arrest.

Contrary to these reports, Stanikzai has denied any rift with the Taliban leadership. He stated that he had contracted a "coronavirus-like disease" and traveled abroad for rest and recuperation. He dismissed the allegations of fleeing due to fear of arrest as "false propaganda" spread by the media.

The Taliban's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Zia Ahmad, refuted claims of internal disagreements, asserting that Stanikzai left the country solely for health reasons. He emphasized that there are no disputes among Taliban officials.

Stanikzai's departure highlights potential internal divisions within the Taliban, especially concerning policies on women's rights and education. His criticisms have been among the harshest public denunciations from within the Taliban's ranks, indicating possible fractures in the group's unity. Analysts suggest that these internal disagreements could lead to deeper fissures, particularly as some leaders advocate for more moderate approaches in response to international pressure.

As the situation develops, the international community will closely monitor how these internal dynamics influence the Taliban's governance and policies, especially regarding human rights and engagement with global stakeholders
