Pakistan rallies global support for diplomacy as regional powers back Islamabad talks

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan has intensified diplomatic engagement with key regional and global partners, as countries across the Middle East, Europe, and beyond voiced support for dialogue following the recent U.S.–Iran negotiations hosted in Islamabad.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar led a series of high-level meetings and calls, reinforcing Pakistan’s role as a mediator and urging sustained diplomatic efforts to maintain a fragile ceasefire.

In Islamabad, Dar met senior officials from Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, including Musa Kulaklikaya, Nazih El Naggari and Abdullah bin Khalid bin Saud Al-Kabeer AlSaud.

The visiting diplomats were in Pakistan for the inaugural Senior Officials’ Meeting of the four countries, signaling a push toward structured regional cooperation. Dar highlighted “close, brotherly relations” and convergence on key global and regional issues, calling for a joint framework focused on peace, prosperity and economic development.

- Broad international backing

Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach also drew strong endorsements from global partners.

In a call with Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Sabah, the Kuwaiti side commended Islamabad’s facilitation of talks, while both countries reaffirmed strong bilateral ties and agreed to maintain close coordination.

The European Union’s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas also praised Pakistan’s constructive role during a phone call with Dar, emphasizing the need for continued dialogue to resolve the conflict. Both sides noted growing cooperation between Pakistan and the EU.

Similarly, Canada’s Foreign Minister Anita Anand acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts in bringing parties to the negotiating table, stressing the importance of adherence to the ceasefire.

The United Kingdom echoed this support, with Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper appreciating Pakistan’s role in promoting regional stability and calling for full implementation of ceasefire commitments.

- China Reaffirms Support

In a separate conversation, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi congratulated Pakistan on its diplomatic initiatives and reiterated Beijing’s support for Islamabad’s peace efforts.

Both sides discussed the Islamabad Talks and broader regional dynamics, underlining the importance of dialogue. They also reviewed the Pakistan–China Five-Point Peace Initiative aimed at fostering a negotiated resolution to ongoing tensions.

- Pakistan Pushes Diplomacy as Only Path

Throughout the engagements, Dar consistently emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy remain “the only viable path” to resolving conflicts and ensuring long-term peace.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continuing its facilitation role, maintaining contacts with all stakeholders, and working with international partners to sustain the momentum generated by the Islamabad Talks.

The flurry of diplomatic activity underscores Pakistan’s growing positioning as a key intermediary at a time when regional tensions remain high but a ceasefire—though fragile—continues to hold.
