Pakistan Army Chief meets global leaders on sidelines of Munich Security Conference in Germany

ISLAMABAD -  Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Force (CDF), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, met with global leaders, including the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in Germany.

 

Gen. Munir who visited Germany from February 12 to 14 to participate in high-level engagements on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

 

During his visit, Field Marshal Munir held a series of meetings with senior international officials to discuss global and regional security dynamics, counterterrorism cooperation, and bilateral defence ties.

 

In a key engagement, he met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The two sides discussed matters of mutual interest, including evolving global and regional security challenges and cooperation in counterterrorism.

 

As part of his interactions with German leadership, the COAS called on Alexander Dobrindt, Federal Minister of the Interior of Germany; Günter Sautter, Foreign and Security Policy Advisor to the German Federal Chancellor; and General Carsten Breuer, Chief of Defence of the Federal Armed Forces. Discussions focused on contemporary security issues, strengthening bilateral defence cooperation, and promoting global peace through bilateral and multilateral dialogue.

 

On the sidelines of the conference, Field Marshal Munir also held a productive meeting with Admiral Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire, Chief of the Joint Staff of the Brazilian Armed Forces, where both sides explored avenues for enhanced military collaboration.

 

Additionally, General Rodolph Haykal, Commander of the Armed Forces of Lebanon, called on the Pakistani Army Chief. The two military leaders exchanged views on the global and regional security environment and discussed measures to expand bilateral defence cooperation.

 

The ISPR statement said the engagements underscored Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships and contributing to global peace and security through dialogue and cooperation.
