Pakistan, Myanmar Pledge Broader Partnership in Trade, Culture, and Science

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan and Myanmar on Monday reaffirmed their commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including religious tourism, cultural and people-to-people exchanges, trade, the economy, and science, as both sides sought to strengthen ties and promote shared prosperity.


The renewed resolve was announced following delegation-level talks in Islamabad between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Myanmar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Than Swe, who later addressed a joint press stakeout.

 

Speaking to the media, Ishaq Dar described the discussions as “productive and comprehensive,” stressing the importance of transforming engagement into structured, results-oriented initiatives, particularly in the area of capacity building. He said both countries were keen to move beyond dialogue toward practical cooperation that delivers tangible outcomes.

 

The deputy prime minister noted that the visit of Myanmar’s foreign minister underscored the value both sides place on revitalizing and strengthening Pakistan-Myanmar relations. He emphasized that disputes at the regional and international levels should be addressed through dialogue and diplomacy, while also highlighting the need to expand cooperation in academic and educational linkages.

 

“Pakistan and Myanmar enjoy cordial and friendly relations,” Ishaq Dar said, adding that Islamabad attaches great importance to the partnership and is eager to broaden collaboration in mutually beneficial fields, ranging from economic engagement to scientific cooperation.

 

For his part, Myanmar’s Foreign Minister Than Swe expressed appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by the Pakistani government and welcomed efforts to deepen bilateral ties.

 

Earlier in the day, the two sides conducted a comprehensive review of their bilateral relationship and exchanged views on regional and international peace and security. They also agreed to maintain close contact and coordination on issues of shared interest, signaling continued diplomatic engagement between Islamabad and Naypyidaw.

While they also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the Foreign Offices of Pakistan and Myanmar.

This institutional mechanism will facilitate regular engagement and sustained dialogue on bilateral, regional, and international issues.
