Pakistan, Egypt conclude joint counterterrorism exercise “Thunder-II”

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan and Egypt have successfully concluded a two-week joint military exercise, “Thunder-II,” aimed at enhancing cooperation and interoperability in counterterrorism operations, the Pakistani military said on Monday.

The exercise, held at the Special Services Group (SSG) training facility in Cherat, brought together elite combat teams from the Pakistan Army’s SSG and Egyptian Special Forces. It focused on refining joint drills, procedures, and tactical techniques through intensive field training designed to address evolving counterterrorism challenges.

According to ISPR, participating troops demonstrated a high level of professionalism and operational capability throughout the exercise, underscoring the effectiveness of joint training between the two countries’ special operations forces.

The closing ceremony was attended by the General Officer Commanding of the SSG as chief guest. The event was also witnessed by Commander of Egyptian Paratroopers Major General Mohamed Saad Abdel Razik, along with Egypt’s Defence Attaché to Pakistan.

Military officials said the exercise not only enhanced operational coordination between the two armies but also reinforced longstanding defence ties and strategic cooperation between Pakistan and Egypt.

“Thunder-II” is part of a series of bilateral engagements aimed at strengthening military-to-military relations and promoting regional security through shared expertise and collaboration.
