By The South Asia Times

RIYADH - Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif arrived in Riyadh on an official visit to attend the World Defense Show, where he held talks with his Saudi counterpart Prince Khalid bin Salman, signaling continued momentum in defense cooperation between the two longstanding allies.

Asif reached Saudi Arabia at the formal invitation of the kingdom’s government to participate in the high-profile World Defense Show, a global platform showcasing advanced military technologies and fostering strategic partnerships.

Upon arrival in Riyadh, Asif was welcomed by senior Saudi officials and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ahmed Farooq, reflecting the close diplomatic ties between the two countries.

On the sidelines of the exhibition, the Pakistani defence chief met Saudi Minister of Defence Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz.

During the meeting, Asif congratulated the Saudi leadership on the successful organization of the event, describing it as a “world-class” initiative and an important milestone for enhancing regional defense collaboration.

While official details of the discussions were limited, the engagement underscores deep-rooted military cooperation between Islamabad and Riyadh, which spans training, joint exercises, defense production, and security coordination.

Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have long maintained a strategic partnership anchored in defense and economic ties. Pakistan has historically provided military support and training to the kingdom, while Saudi Arabia has been a key economic partner for Islamabad.

The World Defense Show, increasingly seen as a major gathering for global defense stakeholders, offers participating nations an opportunity to expand partnerships and explore emerging security technologies at a time of shifting geopolitical dynamics.

Asif’s visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral defense relations and reaffirm both countries’ commitment to regional stability and security cooperation.
