By The South Asia Times

Vienna - Pakistan and Austria pledged to strengthen economic ties and deepen multilateral cooperation during talks between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Austrian Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker at the Federal Chancellery in Vienna on Monday.

Prime Minister Sharif was received with a guard of honour ceremony at the historic Hofburg Palace before holding a restricted meeting with Chancellor Stocker, followed by delegation-level talks.

The Pakistani delegation included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi, and Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch.

Both leaders recalled the longstanding and friendly relations between Pakistan and Austria and agreed to expand cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, hospitality, education, information technology, healthcare, and human resource mobility.

They committed to accelerating the finalization of memorandums of understanding currently under consideration in these sectors.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional and global developments, underscoring the central role of the United Nations in addressing challenges related to peace and security, sustainable development, climate action, and the protection of human rights. Both reaffirmed their shared commitment to multilateralism and cooperation within the UN framework.

Sharif and Stocker co-chaired a CEOs’ forum bringing together leading Austrian and Pakistani companies in renewable energy, industrial manufacturing, construction, IT, textiles, surgical equipment, healthcare, and agro-industries. It was agreed to enhance government-to-government and business-to-business engagement through existing platforms.

Prime Minister Sharif thanked the Austrian leadership for the warm hospitality and extended an invitation to Chancellor Stocker to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at his earliest convenience.
