Pakistan, Bangladesh Signal New Era of Relations After Political Transition in Dhaka

By The South Asia Times

New York — Pakistan and Bangladesh have reaffirmed their resolve to strengthen bilateral ties, marking a significant shift in relations following the recent change of government in Dhaka.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met H.E. Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the Government of Bangladesh, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

During the warm and cordial meeting, both leaders reviewed the current state of bilateral relations and discussed ways to deepen cooperation in key areas such as trade, regional connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges.

Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to building constructive and forward-looking ties with Bangladesh, rooted in mutual respect, trust, and the shared aspiration of regional peace and prosperity.

Professor Yunus welcomed Pakistan’s outreach and stressed the importance of expanding bilateral trade and cultural linkages, highlighting the opportunities for closer engagement between the two countries.

The meeting reflected a cordial and friendly atmosphere, underscoring the mutual commitment of both sides to work together for the well-being of their people and the stability of South Asia.

This high-level interaction comes after Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar visited Dhaka last month, further signaling Islamabad and Dhaka’s readiness to enhance ties in the post-Hasina Wajid era.
