Government and PTI Negotiations Collapse, Leaving Nation in Shock

By The South Asia Times

Islamabad – Hopes of resolving Pakistan’s ongoing political crisis were dashed as negotiations between the government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) came to an abrupt end. The collapse of talks has left the nation in shock, with many fearing heightened instability in the coming weeks.

Sources close to the negotiation teams revealed that deep-rooted mistrust and irreconcilable differences over key issues derailed the dialogue. The talks, which were aimed at addressing political polarization, economic uncertainty, and concerns about democratic processes, were widely seen as a last-ditch effort to restore calm in a deeply divided country.

Both sides blamed each other for the breakdown.  a senior negotiation team member from government side  accused PTI of making "unrealistic and non-negotiable demands," including the immediate announcement of snap elections and withdrawal of cases against PTI leadership. "We have made every effort to reach a middle ground, but they are unwilling to compromise," the official said.

However, PTI leaders said they only demand to constitute a judicial commission to probe the May 9 and Nov. 26 incidents, but government is not ready to form the commission.

Last week, jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan announced to end negotitaion if government is not ready to form the probe commission.

The collapse of talks has sparked widespread concern among citizens and political analysts, many of whom were hopeful that the negotiations could mark a turning point in Pakistan's fraught political landscape.

The speaker National Assembly has called the meeting of negotiation committee today but PTI said they would not participate in the meeting.
