Iran's top diplomat accuses UAE of 'alliance' with Israel, demands policy shift at BRICS summit

By The South Asia Times

NEW DELHI - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Thursday called on the United Arab Emirates to reconsider its policies toward Tehran, accusing Abu Dhabi of forging an "alliance" with Israel that has failed to provide security, according to Anadolu Agency.

Speaking during the BRICS 2026 summit in India, Araghchi claimed the UAE was "directly involved" in what he described as "aggression" against Iran, according to comments carried by state broadcaster IRIB.

"Your alliance with the Israelis did not protect you, and you should reconsider your policy toward Iran," Araghchi said.

The Iranian top diplomat also criticized Abu Dhabi for failing to condemn US-Israeli attacks when they first began against Tehran. He further alleged that the UAE allowed its territory to be used "to launch military equipment and artillery against Iran."

There was no immediate comment from the UAE on Araghchi's accusations.

Regional tensions have remained high since the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran on February 28, prompting Tehran to retaliate against Israel and US allies in the Gulf, as well as the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. A ceasefire brokered by Pakistan took effect on April 8, but subsequent talks in Islamabad failed to produce a lasting agreement. US President Donald Trump later extended the truce without a set deadline.
