In a letter, the Congress President of Maharashtra Nana Patole, posted on his official Twitter, warned that the movie would strengthen racist tendencies in India.

“The movie "Why I Killed Gandhi" has been released in cinemas and OTTs in Maharashtra. Regarding the ban on display on the platform,” the State President Nana Patole tweeted.

In his letter addressed to the Chief Minister Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, the Congress leader said that the movie is planned to be released on Jan. 30, the death anniversary of Indian national leader.

"On one hand, Gandhiji's death anniversary is observed for non-violence and peace. On the other hand, 'Why I killed Gandhi' is being released. This will give strength to racist tendencies,” he wrote.

On Jan. 30, 1948, a militant Nathuram Vinayak Godse who was member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a Hindu extremist and militant organisation, was shot dead Gandhi and accused him for pro-Muslim and soft on Pakistan.

The current ruling party of India, BJP is the political wing of RSS, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi also remained part of the RSS.
