Pakistan govt withdraws security from former prime minister Imran Khan despite security threats, his party claims

ISLAMABAD (TSAT) - Pakistan's former ruling party leader on Friday claimed that the country's new government has withdrawn security from former Prime Minister Imran Khan despite security threats.

Addressing a news conference, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shireen Mazari said the government has informed her party that no more security will be provided by the government to Khan.

“Govt providing state-level security to convicted Maryam Nawaz but they withdraw security from Imran Khan,” she told the reporters.

Mazari added that the government has sent a letter to her party and advised them to arrange security for Khan.

She called the move as part of a conspiracy as already the US hatched a conspiracy against Khan and toppled his elected government last month in the South Asian country.

Talking about the alleged US regime change in Pakistan, Mazari said that the US official had clearly told Pakistan's ambassador to Washington that they no more want Khan as PM of Pakistan.

“ I want to once again quote the language used by the US official and wrote in the cypher “If prime minister Imran Khan remains in power, he [Khan] will be isolated from the US and from Europe. And we will take the issue head-on and If however, the vote of no confidence succeeds then Pakistan will be forgiven.” She said.

Mazari added that the US diplomats in Pakistan repeatedly held meetings with former opposition leaders and PTI dissidents MPs from last year.

Khan also accused Washington for outed him from power through a conspiracy because of his independent foreign policy.

The US denied the accusations.

Regarding the withdrawal of Khan's security, so far no statement has been issued by the government, as last month Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the concerned officials to provide foolproof security to Khan, after the country’s intelligence agencies reported that Khan is facing life threats.

Sharif had also asked the provincial governments to ensure Khan’s security during his public gatherings in their provinces.

However, its not clear why the interior ministry withdrawn security from the former premier and a high profile politician of the country despite clear instructions from PM Sharif.

Khan has already launched a public campaign to pressure the government to announce immediate elections after he lost a vote of no-confidence in parliament last month.

He held three big power shows in Peshawar, Karachi, and Lahore and now holds at different districts of the country.

Khan's public campaign has put the government under pressure because of huge public support and now he announced a long march toward the capital Islamabad to force the government to announce immediate elections.
