North Korea Condemns U.S. Actions Against Venezuela, Calls Them ‘Flagrant Violation’ of International Law

By The South Asia Times

Pyongyang— North Korea on Sunday strongly condemned what it described as the United States’ coercive actions against Venezuela, calling them a grave violation of the country’s sovereignty and a breach of international law.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea said Pyongyang fully understood the seriousness of the current situation in Venezuela, warning that U.S. actions would further destabilize an already fragile regional environment, state-run Korean Central News Agency reported.

“We understand the gravity of the current situation in Venezuela, brought about by the U.S.’s coercive actions, in the context of the increased instability it will add to an already fragile regional situation,” the spokesperson said.

The ministry described the U.S. conduct as a recurring pattern of aggression, labeling it an example of Washington’s “rogue and bestial nature” that, it said, the international community has witnessed repeatedly over the years.

According to the statement, North Korea strongly condemned what it termed U.S. “hegemonic actions” in Venezuela, calling them the most serious form of infringement on national sovereignty and a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter and international law. The spokesperson stressed that the fundamental principles of international law include respect for sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and the preservation of territorial integrity.

The ministry further urged the international community to recognize the seriousness of the Venezuelan crisis, warning that it has had devastating consequences for regional stability and international relations.

“The international community must raise its voice in protest and condemnation of the United States’ habitual violations of sovereignty,” the spokesperson said.

North Korea’s remarks add to growing international criticism of U.S. actions toward Venezuela, as tensions continue to escalate over Washington’s approach to the South American nation.
