6 Policemen Martyred in explosion in northwestern Pakistan; CTD Kills 8 Terrorists in Separate Operations

PESHAWAR— Six policemen were martyred on Monday after an improvised explosive device (IED) struck their armoured vehicle in the Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwestern Pakistan, police said.

According to a statement issued by a Tank police spokesperson, the blast targeted an armoured personnel carrier (APC) within the jurisdiction of Gomal police station. The vehicle was en route from the Gomal police station to Tank when it was hit by the explosive device.

“Six policemen were martyred in the IED blast,” the spokesperson confirmed, adding that the victims included an additional station house officer (SHO). Security forces cordoned off the area following the incident and launched a search operation to trace those responsible.

The attack comes amid continued efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb militancy in the province.

In a related development, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi paid tribute to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) for what he described as successful operations against militant networks in Peshawar, Bannu and Khyber. He said CTD personnel had eliminated eight terrorists, including two most-wanted commanders, and foiled multiple terror plots.

Commending the department’s professionalism, the interior minister said the operatives had brought the militants to a “humiliating end” and saluted the bravery of the officers who took part in the actions. He подчеркed that the CTD’s role in combating terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was “commendable” and vital for restoring peace in the region.
