Suicide Bomber from Afghanistan Arrested in South Waziristan; Confesses Taliban Training for Attacks on Pakistan Army

By The South Asia Times

PESHAWAR - Security forces has arrested a suicide bomber linked to cross-border network in South Waziristan area of Northwestern Pakistan, according to officials.

The arrested suspect has been identified as Nematullah, son of Musa Jan, a resident of Kandahar province, Afghanistan. During interrogation, Nematullah confessed that he was a student at the Johari Madrasa in Kandahar, where he was memorizing the Quran.

In his confessional video statement, Nematullah revealed that some individuals at the madrasa convinced him that “jihad against the Pakistan Army is legitimate.” He said a group of 40 individuals gathered in Khost before crossing into Pakistan and reaching a Taliban base in the Lalee Zay area of Burund, South Waziristan, where they were trained for suicide missions under a commander named Omar Hamas.

“The training lasted three months, though I received only one week. We were taught how to carry out suicide attacks on vehicles, check posts, and the army,” he admitted.

Nematullah further said that during his training, hearing the call to prayer made him realize that the Pakistan Army is also Muslim, and such attacks are forbidden in Islam.

Security officials said the arrest and confession highlight how Afghan Taliban-linked networks continue to indoctrinate and recruit young men for terrorist activities targeting Pakistan’s security forces under the guise of religious teaching.
