Pakistan new prime minister Shehbaz Sharif takes oath

ISLAMABAD (TSAT) - Pakistan new Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif Monday took the oath as the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Acting President and Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani administered the oath of office to the newly-elected prime minister, after winning a vote of no confidence in the National Assembly, according to state-run APP.

The ceremony was held here at the President House and which was attended by parliamentarians, services chiefs and senior officials. Leaders of political parties, including Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Hamza Shehbaz Sharif,  Raja Zafarul Haq, Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Maryam Nawaz, Yusuf Raza Gilani, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Akhtar Mengal and senior officers also attended the oath taking ceremony.

 

The President Dr Arif Alvi could not atteneded the as he was not feeling well.

According to the Presidency, Alvi was complained of discomfort and the physician advised him rest for a few days.

 

Sharif is facing corruption charges and his case is undertrial in the court and hearing was fixed on Monday but the court adjourned the hearing till April 27, because he was busy in the parliament. 

 

Meanwhile, Pakistan arch-rival India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Sharif over his election to become the prime minister of Pakistan. 


"Congratulations to H. E. Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on his election as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. India desires peace and stability in a region free of terror, so that we can focus on our development challenges and ensure the well-being and prosperity of our people," Modi tweeted.
