Pakistani Premier Sharif Thanks Trump for Ceasefire with India at White House Meeting

Washington— Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the U.S. President Donald J. Trump for his role in helping to secure a ceasefire between Pakistan and India, saying Trump averted a “major catastrophe” in South Asia, his office said on Friday in a statement.

During the meeting in White House Pakistani army chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, was also accopanied by Sharif.

Prime Minister office called the meeting as a warm and cordial.

Sharif said Trump as a “man of peace” whose “bold, courageous and decisive leadership” was contributing to efforts to end conflicts across the globe.

Shehbaz also lauded Trump’s to held Muslim leaders in New York conference in New York on the sidelines of UN General Assembly in New York and discussed ways to halt the war in Gaza, noting that such efforts were vital for peace in Gaza and the West Bank.

The Prime Minister also thanked Trump for trade agreement with Pakistan and hoped that under Trump leadership, the longstanding Pakistan-U.S. partnership would grow stronger. He invited American companies to invest in Pakistan’s agriculture, IT, mining, and energy sectors.

Sharif also welcomed Trump’s public endorsement of Pakistan’s counter-terrorism role and called for deeper intelligence and security cooperation between the two countries.

He also extended invitation to Trump to visit Pakistan.

Earlier, while speaking to reporters at his office at a ceremony, he mentioned that he was about to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

Donald Trump said in fact, we have a great leader coming.

He said we have the Prime Minister of Pakistan coming and the Field Marshal.

He remarked that the Field Marshal is a very great guy and so is the Prime Minister.
