Pakistan to holds election in largest province of Punjab on April 30

By Khushal Khan

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan President Dr Arif Alvi on Friday announced the data of provincial assembly elections in Punjab after the country's top court ruling.

"President Dr Arif Alvi has announced the date of 30th April 2023 (Sunday) for holding the general elections of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab," said the presidency in a statement.

He announced the date after considering the dates proposed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The ECP had proposed a poll date between 30th April to 7th May 2023 for holding general elections of Provincial Assembly of Punjab, and had further suggested to hold elections preferably on a Sunday.

The President announcement came after the country top court ordered on Wednesday to hold elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province within 90 days of dissolution of provincial assemblies.

Opposition party Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf already dissolved the provincial assemblies in both province in January this year.
