Pakistan confirms US, Iran reach final peace deal text as Shehbaz Sharif to departs for Switzerland

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced Friday that a final, agreed-upon text of a peace deal between the United States and Iran has been reached, declaring that "peace has never been this close as it is now."

In a post on X, Sharif acknowledged an "incessant misinformation campaign being waged by those who want to sabotage the peace deal" but urged the public to "set aside the noise."

"Amid ongoing intense mediation efforts by Pakistan, we are fully aware of incessant misinformation campaign being waged by those who want to sabotage the peace deal," the Prime Minister wrote. "Setting aside the noise, we can confirm that a final, agreed upon text of the peace deal has been reached and Pakistan is now working closely with both sides to finalize the next steps."

According to officials, Prime Minister Sharif is expected to depart for Switzerland to witness the signing of the peace deal between the United States and Iran. The US Vice President is also expected to arrive in Switzerland on Saturday for the historic occasion.

The development marks a dramatic turnaround after days of intense military escalation, including US strikes on Iranian targets and Iranian retaliatory attacks on US bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar spoke with Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis on Saturday evening to coordinate on the final stages of the agreement.

The two leaders "exchanged views on the regional situation and welcomed the encouraging progress toward an understanding between the United States and Iran," according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

The Swiss Foreign Minister "appreciated Pakistan's leading mediating role in supporting diplomatic engagement and its efforts in helping advance progress towards peace and stability in the region and beyond."

Both sides agreed to remain closely engaged on further developments as the world awaits what could be a landmark diplomatic breakthrough after weeks of devastating conflict.
