By Imran Nasir

ISLAMABAD (TSAT) - Pakistan Information Minister Fawad Ahmed Chaudhry on Thursday claimed that a powerful country is behind the regime change in Pakistan.

Talking with reporters along with Hammad Azhar, Minister of Energy, he said some elements inside the country are playing in hands of foreign players.

“Opposition parties [in Pakistan] today repeating the East India company episode and become part of the foreign conspiracy against Prime Minister Imran Khan,” Chaudhry said.

He reiterated his party stance and said his party and government will stand in front of foreign forces who want regime change because of Khan’s independent foreign policy.

Earlier, Chaudhry along with other cabinet members also attended the National Security Council meeting where Khan presented the threatening letter he received from a foreign country.

The meeting which was chaired by Khan also attended by the services chiefs of the Pakistan armed forces and the head of the national intelligence agency.

However, Chaudhry refused to name the country from where Khan received the letter.

“It's mentioned in the letter that Khan will remove through no-confidence motion and if he was not removed then Pakistan could face problems,” he added.

According to the ministers, the letter was received on March 7, while opposition parties including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Pakistan Peoples Party and JUI submitted the no-confidence against Khan in the parliament on March 8.

“Opposition has adopted the same procedure which mentions in the letter that Imran Khan government will topple through a no-confidence motion,” Azhar said.

“These power are confident that Pakistan's foreign policy will rechange once they remove Imran Khan from power and bring their own people,” he claimed.

Earlier in the morning, a senior Pakistani journalist Nasim Zehra wrote on Twitter that a high US official called the outgoing Pakistani ambassador in Washington and conveyed a US government message.

“US under Secretary of State did call outgoing Amb DrAsad to deliver a demarche for Pak govt: he told amb as long as PM @ImranKhanPTI is PM relations with Pakistan can’t improve & if he goes Pak can be forgiven for its mistakes. Outrageous official communication! All must condemn,” she tweeted.

However, according to local media, the US state department rejected the allegations of its involvement in the current political crisis in Islamabad.

“Allegations of US involvement in the no-trust motion and ‘threat letter’ to PM Imran Khan are baseless,” Geo News quoted the State Department responding to their question.

However, Washington closely monitoring the current political situation in Pakistan, its added.
