By Zahid Shah

ISLAMABAD: A grand tribal jirga on Wednesday left for Kabul to join the ongoing peace talks between the Pkaistani government and the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The 50 members Jirga will facilitate the ongoing peace talks as in tribal culture both parties respect the elders.

“We are hopeful our efforts will produce results,” former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shaukatullah Khan, who is part of the Jirga, told Dawn.

Special Adviser to the KP Chief Minister for Information Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif also left for Kabul to join the Jirga.

Earlier, local media reported that both sides have agreed to an indefinite ceasefire that is considered a major confidence-building measure to take the process forward.

Taliban earlier announced the ceasefire in Ramdan that was later extended till May 30.
