Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan holds ‘online Jalsa’ on Twitter, makes records participation of over 165,000 people

Khan says the parliamentary system unable to run in Pakistan, expressed no-trust on Chief Election Commissioner of the country

By Mashal Khan

ISLAMABAD (TSAT) - Pakistan's former charismatic Prime Minister Imran Khan gathered huge crowd on Twitter space on Wednesday night when he participated and speak to his first space on the social media platform.

The Twitter space was hosted by his party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, official Twitter handle @PTIofficial  which was joined by thousands of people from Pakistan and across the world.

Khan live responded to people during his hours-long space and spoke on the current political crisis in Pakistan.

Talking about his party’s foreign funding case in the Election Commission of Pakistan, he said there is nothing that the election commission will ban his party.

“I don’t trust the current Chief Election Commissioner as he is anti-PTI and so far all his decisions came against us,” Khan said.

Khan's statement raised questions about the neutrality of the country’s top election commission official who will conduct the upcoming general elections in the country.

Khan also called the current parliamentary system is not suitable for countries like Pakistan where MPs change loyalties and allies blackmail the ruling party.

“The Parliamentary system is unable to run in Pakistan, this system needs to be changed,” Khan said while responding to a question regarding bringing the presidential system in the country.

He again criticized the current government alliance to join hands with foreign forces and topple his elected government.

Former cricket-star turned politician ruled the country since 2018 and was ousted from power by the then opposition alliance through a no-trust motion in the parliament on April 10.

Khan accused the United States of hitching conspiracy against his government and changed the regime in the South Asian country.

The accusation was denied by the United States.

He hoped that his party will come back with a majority in the coming elections and again will start his reforms for a better future for Pakistan.

"I request the nation to stand with me for the better future of Pakistan and I invite you all to join me tomorrow in  #LahoreJalsa ," Imran Khan urged.

On Thursday, Imran Khan is going to hold another massive public gathering in Lahore, after big public gatherings in Peshawar and Karachi.

Lahore is the hometown of current Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Describing his experience in the government, Khan said the three years in power was the most difficult time in his life.

"These three years in govt was the most difficult time in my life because of less majority in the parliament, allies and some other were blackmailing us and we were not able to bring real reforms," Imran Khan

Responding to a question regarding threats to his life and he should take precautionary measures for his security, Khan said “Life and death is in the hands of Allah.”

"Life and death is in the hands of Allah, I will take precautionary measures but I believe in Allah and Allah will keep me in his protection," Imran Khan said.

He also criticized the major political parties, now in power in Pakistan, Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party and called them “families parties”.

“There is no merit inside these parties, that's the reason that now these parties are squeezed into Sindh and Punjab provinces.

“The sons and daughters of these leaders are like the kings and no one inside their parties could speak before them,” he added.

He also spoke on the ongoing propaganda on social media against the country's armed forces and Khan said the nation should stand behind its armed forces.

“” Never speak against the army, the army is more important than Imran Khan and our enemies continuously attacking them [armed forces], even Nawaz Sharif and Zardari both tried to undermine our army, so stand behind your army," Imran Khan said and urged the youth to support the armed forces on social media.

“Our enemies attacking our army, so I urge the youth to stand behind the Pakistan army," Imran Khan added.

He also urged the judiciary to ensure justice in the country as currently, 24 ministers in the new cabinet are on bail in different corruption cases.

He also warned that if any NRO-2 was given to the former PM Nawaz Sharif to allow him to come back to Pakistan, he will bring the nation against him into the streets.

Nawaz Sharif is currently living in London and facing corruption cases in the courts.

Last year, the country's top court dismissed appeals of Sharif against his conviction in two corruption cases by an accountability court, as it described him as a “fugitive from law”.
