Pakistan, 15 Countries Express Concern Over Safety of Gaza-Bound Global Sumud Flotilla

By The South Asia Times

Islamabad— Pakistan, along with 15 other countries, has voiced concern over the safety of the Global Sumud Flotilla, a civil society initiative carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza and highlighting the urgent needs of the Palestinian people.

In a joint statement issued on Monday, the foreign ministers of Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Ireland, Libya, Malaysia, Maldives, Mexico, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain and Türkiye underlined their support for the flotilla’s objectives of peace, aid delivery, and raising awareness about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

“Our governments share the commitment to peace and humanitarian aid delivery, together with respect for international law, including humanitarian law,” the statement read.

The ministers called on all parties to refrain from any unlawful or violent actions against the flotilla, urging respect for international law and international humanitarian principles.

They also warned that any violation of international law and human rights of flotilla participants — including attacks on vessels in international waters or illegal detention of activists — would entail accountability.

The Global Sumud Flotilla, made up of participants from across several countries, is attempting to deliver aid to Gaza amid the ongoing war and widespread destruction that has left the enclave’s population in dire need of food, medicine and shelter.
