ISLAMABAD (TSAT) - Pakistan army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Sunday took notice of torturing a serving military officer by the ruling party supporters in Lahore.

In a statement, issued by the ISPR, the media wing of Pakistan army, Gen. Bajwa visited the Combined Military Hospital Lahore (CMH) and inquired about the well-being of Major Haris who was manhandled and injured in a road rage incident recently.

“Law will take its course. Perpetrators, who are under arrest, will be brought to justice,” said the army chief and adding no one can be allowed to take the law into their hands.

Maj. Haris was tortured by the ruling party Pakistan Muslim League workers in Lahore and later police arrested the perpetrators.

Earlier, upon his arrival, he was received by Corps Commander Lahore Lieutenant General Muhammad Abdul Aziz.

Gen. Bajwa also interacted with garrison officers and veterans in two separate interactive sessions.

He appreciated Lahore Corps for maintaining high standards of operational preparedness and training.

“Misinformation and propaganda threatens state integrity requiring timely and unified response to effectively counter speculations and rumours,” Gen. Bajwa told the participants.

He was referring to the recent propaganda spread by anti-army elements inside and outside of the country on social media.

The elements tried to create distance between the armed forces and the nation as they were accusing the army chief was behind the ousting of former PM Imran Khan.

“Army draw its strength from people and any effort to create a wedge between army and population won’t be tolerated,” Gen. Bajwa reiterated.

“The hostile forces are trying this for a long time but they won’t succeed, Insha Allah,” he concluded

Earlier on Thursday Director-General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Major General Babar Iftikhar also strongly rejected any role in ousting former prime minister Imran from power and said ongoing propaganda against the armed forces is unacceptable.

Speaking at a news conference in army headquarters, General Babar Iftikhar said the army has nothing with politics.

“Our constitutional and legal role does not allow us to interfere in political affairs and the army will not interfere in future as well,” he said.

Talking about the ongoing social media campaign against the army leadership, Gen. Iftikhar said people should not drag the army into politics and refrain from criticizing the institution.

“The concerned authorities reached to people who are behind the recent campaign and the army would not tolerate propaganda and spreading fake and baseless information,” he said.
