Pakistan Conveys Concerns Over India-Afghanistan Joint Statement

Pakistan Conveys Concerns Over India-Afghanistan Joint Statement

Islamabad strongly rejects remarks made by Afghan Acting FM in New Delhi

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has conveyed strong reservations to Afghanistan on Saturday over the recent India-Afghanistan Joint Statement issued in New Delhi, which Islamabad said included elements contrary to international law and the UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the Foreign Office, the Additional Foreign Secretary (West Asia & Afghanistan) summoned Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan and expressed serious concern over the reference to Jammu and Kashmir as part of India, calling it “a clear violation of the relevant UN resolutions and the legal status of Jammu and Kashmir.”

Pakistan also rejected the remarks of the Afghan Acting Foreign Minister in India, who termed terrorism an internal issue of Pakistan. Islamabad said it has repeatedly shared evidence of Fitna-e-Khawarij and Fitna-e-Hindustan elements operating from Afghan soil with support from within Afghanistan. Pakistan emphasized that the interim Afghan authorities must take responsibility for controlling terrorism emanating from their territory.

Reaffirming its spirit of Islamic brotherhood and good neighbourliness, Pakistan recalled hosting nearly four million Afghan refugees for over four decades and urged unauthorised Afghan nationals to return home as peace returns to Afghanistan.

Pakistan reiterated its commitment to a peaceful, stable, and regionally connected Afghanistan while underscoring its duty to safeguard national security. Islamabad expects Kabul to prevent the use of its territory by terrorist elements targeting Pakistan.
