India several key ministers tested positive for COVID-19

NEW DELHI (TSAT) - Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh along with several other cabinet members tested positive for COVID-19 as the country moving toward new wave of virus.

"I have tested positive for Corona today with mild symptoms. I am under home quarantine. I request everyone who have recently come in my contact to isolate themselves and get tested," Singh tweeted on Monday.

According to The Indian Express several other minister including Mahendra Nath Pandey, Bharati Pawar, Nityanand Rai and Rajeev Chandrasekhar also got coronavirus as India daily cases again rising from last several days.

On Tuesday, India reported 168,063 new cases with 277 deaths during past 24 hours as the active cases rising to 8,21,446, the highest in last 208 days.

Officials warned that the new omicron variant spreading in the country and some states consider to bringing back COVID-19 restrictions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has summoned the meeting of states Chief Ministers on Thursday to discuss the latest situation and future strategy.

So far India registered over 35.8 million cases and 484,213 deaths while the country fully vaccinated its 46% population, according to US based Johns Hopkins university statistics.
