525 more people dies in India in 24 hours, as omicron variant spreading in big cities

NEW DELHI (TSAT) - At least 525 more people died across Indian in past 24 hours as coronavirus again spreading in the populist South Asian country.

 

According to the health ministry, with new deaths, the country total deaths toll raised to 489,409.

 

During past 24 hours, India also reported 333,533 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total caseload to over 39.23 million.

 

Meanwhile, the country health authorities warned that new omicron variant is spreading fast in the community and hundreds cases reported from big cities.

 

"Omicron is now in community transmission in India and has become dominant in multiple metros, where new cases have been rising exponentially. BA.2 lineage is in a substantial fraction in India and S gene dropout based screening is thus likely to give high false negatives," said Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium, (INSACOG).

 

The over 1.38 billion population country apparently moving to a new wave of virus as the new cases rising since early this month.

 

Pakistan new COVID-19 wave

 

Meanwhile, Pakistan also reported 7,586 new COVID-19 cases in past 24 hours, the second highest infections this week.

 

On Jan. 20, Pakistan recorded 7,678 cases, breaking all previous record since pandemic outbreak in the country in February 2020.

 

So far, Pakistan registered over 1.36 million cases with 29,097 deaths.
