Pakistan falls to a level of Myanmar, Sudan in rule of law: Imran Khan

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD - Reacting on ongoing mass arrest of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) workers and leaders, the country former prime minister Imran Khan said Pakistan has fallen to the level of Myanmar and Sudan where might is right is the law.

"Pakistan was 129 out of 140 countries in the rule of law index before the crackdown on PTI was unleashed with an assault on our fundamental rights never experienced before by the nation,” Khan tweeted.

His statement came after the Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Tuesday said that former premier Khan will be tried in a military court for the events of May 9 when violence erupted following his arrest and military installations came under attack.

“Today we have fallen to the levels of Myanmar and Sudan where might is right is the law. Without rule of law we will neither have democracy (freedom) or prosperity nor a future,” Khan said.

In another tweet, he posted a video of his local leader admitted in a hospital and police reportedly picked him up from hospital forcefully, Khan called the act is “shameful.”

“Self explanatory how forced divorces are conducted through every shameless means possible. All this is doing is adding sympathy for PTI and increasing its vote bank.

These fascist tactics are also widening the gulf between the people of Pakistan and the state institutions.”

During the last few days, around 100 of PTI leaders left the party after arrest as only those leaders allowed to go out of prison who were leaving their party and parting ways with Khan.

According to Khan, currently over 10,000 of his supporters including women arrested by the government across the country.

On Wednesday, Human Rights Watch also expressed deep concern over this situation and urged the authorities to stop the political victimization of Khan’s supporters.
