Imran Khan Returns Home in Lahore

By Yasir khan

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan has returned to his abode in Lahore's Zaman Park after being detained on allegations of corruption.

During his journey to Lahore, the former Prime Minister exposed that the Inspector General of Islamabad police made extensive efforts to obstruct him from leaving for Lahore. For a duration of three hours, he kept him waiting, claiming that it was highly perilous to venture outside.

"After eventually setting out, we discovered that the thoroughfares were completely deserted and that the perceived danger was non-existent," he commented.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan subsequently declared the detention illegal, a verdict denounced by the leaders of the ruling coalition of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).

Khan chose a road path to reach his Lahore residence in the early hours of Saturday.

Before his return, Khan attended the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and was granted bail in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case. The high court gave him a two-week bail period, shielding him from detention until Monday. This includes allegations related to the violent riots that occurred after his initial detention.

Khan also secured bail in the Zille Shah murder case until May 22, and another bench barred his detention until May 15 in three terrorism cases.

Since his dismissal from power in April of the preceding year, Khan has faced several legal accusations. He has accused the incumbent coalition government of colluding with top generals to oust him, and he claims their participation in a November assassination attempt where he sustained a gunshot wound to the leg in Wazirabad.

After receiving bail, Khan remained at the IHC for several hours, waiting for the written order to avoid potential re-arrest. Initially, a police officer informed Khan that he couldn't leave the IHC building, but senior police officers resolved the deadlock, allowing Khan to finally leave.

Khan's detention at the IHC on May 9 sparked violent protests nationwide. However, the Supreme Court invalidated his arrest and ordered his release. Khan appeared at the IHC to seek bail in multiple cases against him and received a favourable outcome.

Intermittent aerial firing

Meanwhile, intermittent aerial firing took place around the IHC premises, prompting authorities to put security on high alert. Islamabad police's spokesperson said no one was injured as a result of the firing.

“All police personnel are safe and search teams are investigating the matter,” he said.

The Islamabad Police also gunshots were heard at H-11 on the Srinagar Highway. Apart from this, gunshots were also heard in G-10 near the IHC.

The spokesperson said that policemen came under fire in the G-11 and G-13 areas. Firing also took place in the slum near Islamic University.

Police sources also attributed the intermittent aerial firing as a reason for restricting Khan within the IHC grounds.
