STOCKHOLM,Sweden (TSAT) - Heavy clashes on Monday continued between the Muslims and far-right extremists groups in Sweden over burning of holy Quran by a local politician.

The clashes erupted after a local leader of the far-right Stram Kurs (Hard Line and extremist) party, Rasmus Paludan burned a copy of Quran, holy book of Muslims in southern Linkoping on Thursday, according to local media reports.

So far, at least 40 people including 26 police officers and dozen vehicles burnt down by the protestors.

Paludan, a well-known Islamophobic, always spreading hatred against the Muslims in the western world, threatened to burn copies of the Quran during extremist rallies.

In a statement, the Norrkoping police department claimed that the officers fired in the air to stop the demonstrators from attacking the police and that those injured appeared to have been hit by ricocheting bullets and are now being treated at a hospital, according to Anadolu Agency.

“These are extremely serious crimes against our society,” The Local reported quoted Swedish national police chief, Anders Thornberg as saying.

According to police, protestors also burnt down their 20 vehicles and they arrested nearly 200 people.

The Muslim world, including Pakistan, Turkiye, Egypt, Iran, Iraq and others strongly condemned the insult and burning of the Holy Quran in the presence of Sweden police and urged the Swedish government to immediately take action against the extremists.
